Center Appoints Lead Counsel R Venkataramani as New Attorney General of India

The Center appointed R Venkataramani as the next Attorney General of India for a three-year term on Wednesday in New Delhi.

He will replace KK Venugopal, whose tenure expires on 30 September 2022. Mukul Rohatgi refused the federal government’s offer to return to the position of Attorney General three days before his appointment.

The president of Droupadi Murmu appointed Venkatramani.

Venkatramani was appointed by President Droupadi Murmu.

Rohatgi served as Attorney General from 2014 to 2017. The Attorney General is the government’s chief legal advisor and chief advocate before the Supreme Court.

Who is Venkataramani?

According to a report by LiveLaw, the primary attorney attended Government Law College, Pondicherry, and started his profession in 1977.

According to the article, he served on the Law Commission of India for two terms in 2010 and 2013, respectively.
