The Daily Times said that angry protesters yelled “liar” and “chor” (thief) at Pakistan’s new Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, as he arrived at Washington airport. This was done by the US International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As Dar arrived at the American airport, an angry protester was heard shouting “You’re a liar.” “You’re a liar” and “Chor-Chor.” In a video widely shared on social media, Dar and his aides, visibly angered by a large amount of profanity directed at the minister, were seen responding.
“You’re a liar,” Dar replied to the person who was explicitly insulting him. All of this was caught on camera, and the video soon went viral.
This is not the first time a Pakistani minister has been bombarded with insults in public during his visits abroad. The Information Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, was booed at a coffee shop in London last month. The delegation led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was in Saudi Arabia on a three-day official visit, received a “wonderful welcome” as they entered the Masjid-e-Nabawi in Medina.
Pilgrims raise “chor chor” [thieves] slogans as they watched the delegation head to Masjid-e-Nabawi. In a video, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and National Assembly member Shahzain Bugti were seen together with others. According to a Pakistani newspaper, Aurangzeb blamed the protest on Imran Khan, who was Prime Minister before Aurangzeb.
“I will not appoint this person to this holy land because I do not want to use this land for politics. But they have destroyed the [Pakistani] society, “Aurangzeb was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.
