More than 30 people were killed in an attack on a day care centre, BANGKOK: Thai police



BANGKOK, Thailand — Authorities say that a gunman opened fire in a daycare center in northeastern Thailand on Thursday, killing more than 30 people, most of whom were children.

Police Major General Achayon Kraithong said that the shooting happened in the center of the town of Nong Bua Lamphu early in the afternoon.

He said that the person who attacked had killed 30 people before killing himself. He didn’t know anymore.

So far, 26 deaths have been confirmed, including 23 children, 2 teachers, and 1 police officer, according to a spokesperson for a regional public affairs office.

Thai news sources say that the attacker also used knives and then ran away from the building.

Photos showed at least two bodies covered in white sheets on the floor of the center.

Several news organizations said the attacker was a former police lieutenant colonel from the area, but there was no official confirmation right away.

The Daily News said that after the attacker ran away from the scene of the crime, he went back to his house and killed himself, his wife, and their child.
