Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday mourned the loss of life in a stampede in South Korea and said India stands in solidarity with that country during this difficult time.
More than 150 people, mostly teenagers and 20-somethings, have died after being trapped and crushed after a large Halloween party crowd burst into a narrow alley in Seoul.
“Deeply shocked at the loss of so many young lives due to the stampede in Seoul. Our condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones,” Jaishankar said in a tweet.
“We stand in solidarity with the Republic of Korea during this difficult time,” he said.
The South Korean flag at the country’s embassy in Delhi flew at half-staff during a terrible stampede in Seoul.
Relatives rushed to hospitals searching for their loved ones on Sunday as South Korea mourned the deaths. Tens of thousands of people had gathered in Seoul’s Itaewon entertainment district for the festivities on Saturday night.
