Hajo is the most divine and enthralling place. It is popular for the blissful temples like Hayagriva Madhav temple ,Kedareswara temple and Ganesh temple . Apart from this temples there is also a mosque named Poa Mecca which is very holy and pure place for the muslims.
Moreover, the area is also dotted with other sacred artifacts and a number of ancient temples. Hajo is an ancient pilgrimage centre. It has temples for three religions Hindu , Muslims and Buddhists.
It is 24 km away from the city Guwahati . It lies on the banks of Brahmaputra River, in the Kamrup district of Assam, India. As the place has number of temples, it is an extremely extensive destinations for a religious and spiritual person. The place has a fantastic tourist attraction. It is mostly famous for Hayagriva Madhava temple. It is situated on the Monikut hill. The hill is situated in Hajo of Assam which is around 30 km to west of Guwahati. It is a Stone temple, one can enter to a temple through a long stone stairway.
Some Buddhists believed that the lord Buddha has attained Nirvana in this temple. The structure of the temple was constructed by the king Raghudeva Narayan in 1583.It enshrines an image of Hayagriva Madhava. On the body of the temple the rows of elephant are seen and it reflects the assamese art and culture. As this temple preaches both Hinduism and Buddhism, it attracts a number of devotes and Buddhist monks every year from faraway places. Moreover, there is a big pond near the temple with tortoises. It adds to the attraction. Hayagriva Madhava temple is completely a place of harmony and admiration.
In addition to Hayagriva Madhava Mandir ,another mosque, Hajo Powa Mecca is situated there . It is the most famous religious spot of the muslim community in Assam. It is said that Puwa- Mecca was constructed from the soil that was brought from the city of Mecca itself. This sacred Mosque was built in 1657 AD , during the reign of the famous Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan by Sujauddin Mohammed Shah. Moreover the best part of the Puwa Mecca is , the Hindu pilgrims of the region also visit this holy place.
